Ideological Enlightenment and New Culture Movement The May Fourth Movement was not only a political movement, but also an ideological enlightenment movement. It made the ideas of science and democracy deeply rooted in people's hearts and promoted the development of the New Culture Movement. The vernacular language gradually replaced the literary language and became the mainstream of modern Chinese language; feudal rites were criticized, and the concepts of individual liberation and equality between men and women gradually took root in people's hearts; the ideas of freedom, equality and fraternity began to take root in all corners of Chinese society. The May Fourth Movement marked the collective awakening of Chinese intellectuals to pursue new ideas and culture, and to free China from the bondage of feudal society. |
