The largest water system in southern China, formed by the confluence of the three major tributaries of the Xijiang, Beijiang and Dongjiang rivers, has its source on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, flows through Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan, and injects into the South China Sea at Guangzhou. The name of the Pearl River began in the Song Dynasty, originally referring to the 70-kilometer section of the Liuxi River flowing from Baigutan to Humen in Guangzhou. The area has a unique Lingnan culture, with modern cities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen coexisting harmoniously with ancient villages. Art forms such as Cantonese Opera and the Lingnan School of Painting are unique, demonstrating the wisdom and creativity of the southern people. |
